Cooking Class Hoi An

We love taking cooking classes in the places we travel. The people are always interesting, we learn a lot about the area, the culture and lives of the people who live in the area. Our class in Hoi An was everything we could have asked for!

It began first thing in the morning with a visit to the market to buy the ingredients for our meal.

Always fresh!
We were told that this particular presentation of the chicken was special for the Lunar New Year coming up in 4 days.

We arrived at our hosts home that she shares with her parents, brother and sister-in-law in the Bay Mau Palm Crest Historical and Cultural Reserve. As soon as we arrived we were gingerly guided into a “bucket boat” for a traditional boat ride that the people still use to get around the canals today.

Attempting to paddle but only succeeded to turn in circles!
Thankfully we had an experienced captain!
He was showing us his fancy moves!

When we returned, they were all set to help us make a Hoi An style lantern . Unfortunately we were not able take it with us, but left it for the family.

I was very focused!
Et voila!

Finally, with Tran’s guidance, we began chopping, mixing and cooking our delicious meal.

After much assistance, our meal was ready to enjoy!

Good to the very last bite!
