Mekong Delta

We took a day tour from Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta. It was a good day!

We stopped at the Vinh Trang Temple

We then took a local boat from the port at My Tho past Dragon Island, Phoenix Island and Turtle Island.

We arrived on Unicorn Island to have a tour of a local bee farm.

This lovely woman convinced us to buy some royal jelly. Apparently if applied as a face mask it diminishes wrinkles and if eaten it has all sorts of health benefits. (Suckers???? Perhaps!)
Oh, and they had a python. Because…Why not?

Ben Tre province was next where we saw a coconut candy factory. The candy was yummy! They also had a number of crocodile leather items for sale and an interesting fermented snake liquor.

Our tour guide Dragon, did not actually invite any of the women to try the snake liquor. I was very tempted to ask to try some just on principle but decided I was fine with Paul trying it on our behalf.
You can see why!! Yuck!
We hopped in a questionable old tuktuk that transported us to our lunch stop
I didn’t ask what these were but they looked like a type of squash..?
We found out where the crocodiles we’re kept.

After lunch we were taken on a boat ride down the canal. We noticed many people just sat back and let the woman in charge of paddling do it all but we decided we should help paddle. Not sure how much help we were but we enjoyed it even more.

And back across the river we went. On our way back Dragon pointed out the bunches of floating leaves that came from the trees on the shoreline.

During the Vietnam war, the Vietcong would use these as camouflage to transport weapons along the rivers.
Yup, a good day!
