There are some places that I have heard about, in name only for years but never really understand what the big deal was. That was Wadi Rum for me. I know a little more now. It is a protected desert area in the southern part of Jordan that is populated by the Beduin people. It is a 720 km2 area capped at 200 camps.
The camps vary in comfort, style and, obviously location. I feel that there isn’t a huge difference, for the amount of time you’ll be there, in comfort – though one with a bathroom is good! There seemed to be 2 styles – traditional tents and domes. But for us, the MOST important thing when choosing a camp is location! We stayed at Beduin Star Trail camp and it was perfect! It was close enough to Barrah canyon for a little walk but you couldn’t see other camps from our camp and there were not many trucks driving past.

We went on a sunset jeep tour on the second day. Some crazy driving – especially on the way home. It was a bit of a bumpy ride in the back of a Toyota pick-up with bench seating but we saw the highlights (alongside the other 50ish jeeps on the same route)!

And, after 2 days of hot sun and dry sand, it was time to head off to our final destination in Jordan – Aqaba.
