People often ask us how we plan for a 9 month trip. The most common questions are: Do you plan it all in advance? How do you decide where to go? How do you get time off work? How do you afford it? I’m not going to answer all the questions now but I will address one – Deciding where to go!
We decided on a few things in advance, either because it was important to us and we wanted to make sure it happened or we thought it might get booked up. The very first thing we organized was our upcoming 6 weeks in Paris. We chose Paris because we wanted to work on our french and Paris is where we were when we were inspired to take our first long term trip and it holds a special place in our hearts.

We chose to start with SE Asia because we wanted to spend less to start. We chose Jordan because we had thought about going there in 2011/12 but couldn’t fit it in. Morocco came up because Paul had a dream of standing ankle deep in the Sahara. We chose Portugal because it was close to Morocco and on the way to Paris.
Spain was not an advanced thought. We came to Spain solely because my sister Patty was starting her European adventure here in Madrid and we thought, since we were pretty close by, it would be cool to see her. We arrived a couple of days before her and although we only spent 1 full day together, we managed to see quite a lot! We are so glad we fit in Madrid!

There are so many squares and parks for people to enjoy!

All too soon, it was time for Paul and I to head to Paris and say goodbye to Patty. We really loved Madrid – what a wonderful city- and especially loved our time with my sister Patty.
