I am part of an Ireland travel group on FB that has been very helpful with planning our itinerary and deciding on our stops and activities. We have followed many of the tips and got some great advice. So, on our approach to Dublin, I had very few expectations as many people in the group say, “don’t bother staying in Dublin”, and encourage fellow travellers to get out to the small towns and villages. We’d done that first and have really enjoyed our time so far and our last stop in the Republic of Ireland is Dublin so here we are!
The apartment we stayed in was very central so it was easy to get the most talked about sites in the city during our 3 days there.

I had organized tickets to see the Book of Kells and the Long Library at Trinity College well in advance based on recommendations I read. It was very impressive! And how cool is it that a library is such a huge tourist draw!!❤️

And for the evening, we made last minute arrangements for a pub tour. We weren’t interested in a “crawl” with a huge group of drunken tourists going to the touristy bars, so we were thrilled when we found “John the Man” who told stories and took us to some crowded and some out of the way pubs. We finished the night at 2 bars known for playing Irish music. (Note: many of the more touristy bars that advertise music 7 nights a week often play the easy to sing along songs by Neil Diamond, the Eagles, Bon Jovi,…)

On our final day, Paul was active- walking about and heading to the Guinness storehouse tour. I however, had a much needed travel shut down day! I hung out at the apartment planning and booking a few things, calling Chloe, talking to some of the family, reading and generally lazing about. It was wonderful! (And I stayed out of the rain for most of the day!)

On our final night, we took advantage of being in a big city and went to a movie. So much pink and pride- I loved it!

I’ve rallied and I’m rested and keen on visiting our second to last country – Northern Ireland. First stop: Belfast!
