39. At Balmoral. Heather: hairy coos are like the ewoks of Scotland
38. At the Ibis Hotel breakfast this AM (July 24), Heather called out the woman at the buffet who was cherry-picking all the good fruit out of the fruit salad.
37. We are now 3 weeks into our Ireland journey. It’s rained parts of every day.
36. It’s 10:45AM as we travel on the train (on a Sunday) from Dublin to Belfast. The announcer just said that the bar is open at the rear of the train….
35. “Well, that’s one way to get a good sleep” says Heather after a night of Dublin pub crawling
34. “I’m only doing cashmere now” says Heather as we are in Inis Mor in the Aran Islands (update, she did buy another Aran sweater)
33. At Musee D’Orsay, I’m struck by the number of people experiencing the art through the lens of their phones
32. Thanks to the Starbucks guy on the Champs Élysées who comped me a birthday drink after explaining that the free drink email I received wasn’t applicable in Paris.
31 just shocked Heather with ordering a coffee with Baileys for the brunch coffee (we got a later start today). She immediately changed her order to join me!
30. In Madrid having breakfast in the Plaza Mayor. Shout out to the English blokes seated beside us who have the beers going at 10:42AM local time
29. Wandering around our first Spanish stop on the Camino and IT IS COLD. Many people in their winter coats laughing at the Canadian in shorts and flip flops.
28. Rode into Spain today. Very thankful that the Spanish apparently aren’t big on cobblestones for their part of the Camino.
27. It’s the morning of the big Day 4 ride. We cross from Portugal into Spain. Lots of km to ride…and it’s raining this morning. We don’t think we have had rain since Gili Air.
26. Day 3 is in the books. Still sore, and am developing a very love/hate relationship with cobblestones
25. It’s been a long time since my butt has been this sore, and it’s only day 2 of 6 for the bike tour!
24. Fireworks in daytime here in Barcelos on Easter Sunday. Apparently it’s a church thing
23. We’ve done dumb things and smart things, but perhaps the smartest was bucking up for electric bikes for the Camino. Now way we make 65k on day 1 with regular bikes!
22. In a wine tour of the Douro Valley in Portugal our guide described Pinao as a one horse town where even the horse wants to leave.
21. Our new friend Kara from Ireland informed us that if your whiskey doesn’t have an “e” in it it’s not worthy (the Irish perspective)
20. When we think back on Morocco, I shall recall the way the dogs would bark through the night.
19. Ugh. Several great thoughts apparently didn’t save, including why I called Heather a barbarian.
18. Am I the only person who didn’t know a air conditioning unit in a room can also be a heater? Dummy!
17. In Hua Hin at a swanky golf resort. Where there are 19 rooms in use tonight. The place is super big.
16. Perhaps the most shocking transition of being in SE Asia is that Heather has become a beer drinker
15. THB is not the same thing as THC – even at Miss Bownie in Pai
14. First dinner in chiang mai. Ordered awesome pad Thai. Proceeded to mix the whole (albeit small) container of chili sauce into the dinner. To quote Heather “sometimes you are your own worst enemy” . What she should have said was DUMBASS
13. Saw a very minor scooter collision this morning in Hanoi. Very civil, no big deal attitude exhibited. Can only imagine how, if this happened at home, people would have lost their minds yelling at each other
12. Happiness is discovering clean underwear
11. So it’s now Ha Long Bay. On a 2 night cruise. Note to self – make sure the coffee dispenser is fully off when you walk away with your cup. Dumbass.
10. Departing Ho Chi Minh this morning for Da Nang. I think we’ve been gone 3 weeks. Both of us need help to correctly identify what day it is
9. Here at galmc2report we often spend time debating the tough questions…..for example at the rice paddies we spent a good 26 seconds debating what’s the difference between a scream versus a yell.
8. Attended our first Full Moon Party – not sure what I expected but seemed to be as good a reason as any to have a party!
7. Well, 57 and change years late, but I had my first pedicure today. Definite thumbs up!

6. Outdoor showers are not so romantic, or practical during a thunderstorm!
5. So what’s the point in packing a headlamp if you leave it in the room when you are going to ride through unfamiliar paths and alleys IN THE DARK. Dumbass…..
4. Went walkabout this morning to do a lap of the Island. Very windy. Asked a local if the flag on the pseudo lifeguard chair was there to signify danger. Couldn’t quite grasp his response so just did a penguins of Madagascar (“smile and wave”). Later in the walkabout I learned the flag I saw was actually the Indonesian national flag. Dumbass…..
3. “Never try, never know”
2. Made it to Gili Air. The sea was angry (except for when the dolphin jumped beside the boat), but multiple Gravol did the job.
1. At Irish bar/ restaurant in Sanur. House band rocking the Beatles. Charles may have some competition ….
