Getting in the Groove

Note the hint of blue sky! it has been overcast with a few showers since we arrived in Bali so it’s nice to see the sun peeking out now and again today.

As with anything new, it takes a little bit to get your groove. This is our third day on Gilli Air and we’re starting to feel more comfortable here (aka relaxed, aka chill).

We rented bikes for the week. My front light doesn’t work, the braking power is limited, pretty much only 1 gear but they were cheap and makes it much easier to get around.
Got lost last night on said bikes. We got a little over confident and strayed off the main paths onto some trails. Picture us ending up on this trail in the dark, with branches smacking us on our heads and then hearing the splash of water under the tires and having to wade through the water, pushing the bikes. Did I mention that it was very dark with little ambient light? Lesson learned – stay on the main paths and bring the headlamps!
We found a few spots that serve delicious coffee using local coffee beans. Mid-morning coffee after a ride and a swim is definitely the way to go (we learned from the best, Deb and Joe).
Happy Hour at our new favourite little bar & restaurant – Santay.
We bought some bracelets – makes it a lot easier to say, “no thank you, we bought some already”, to ward off the hard sell if need be (and we liked them).

We are glad that we decided to start with an extended stay rather than moving quickly along (we will be doing that in some countries). It’s a nice feeling to be able to chill out and get in the groove – of island life, of travelling, of taking a break from our usual routines.

  1. Hi to you both,
Can I be nosy and ask what the budget is, for the 9 months for 2, all in?
