This Too Shall Pass

It’s only been about 10 days since we left home and I’m already really missing Chloe and the pups and my family, even the familiar routines like returning to work on the first week of January – Not to worry, I’ll get over that last one very quickly! I may already be past it now actually…

As Paul just pointed out, we are still really just on a 2 week holiday. Maybe it’s the anticipation of being away for an extended period or the preparation that was involved in getting here but it feels like we’ve already been away for a while.

I do recall that feeling of shifting from short term holiday mode to long-term travel mode. I am still checking in on weather back home and local news, even looked at my work email today (bad idea). I know that shift will come but today I am a little sad.

But, as I often say to myself and others, this too shall pass.

Paul and I talked about our mantra for this journey and we both came up with being present, paying attention and being in the moment as much as we can. The beautiful views, the surprising scenes, the cultural experiences, the harshness and beauty of everyday life, the historical sites, the relaxing times just sitting and reading or the conversations with new and old friends – it all shall pass, so we are going to try our best to pay attention and to simply be present.

We have finally caught up on all your posts after our two weeks in the Okanagan. Sophia and Ellison loved seeing your pictures and sweet little Sophia was quick to shout our your name when she saw you. Don’t worry – Ridgeway will be here when you return with all your wonderful stories. We will miss you BUT we also are thrilled to join in your adventures – thank you for sharing. Passing along “Hi Ms. Gallilee” from both the girls.
