Street Crossing in Vietnam

So one of the things we have heard about Vietnam is the challenging nature of successfully crossing streets. We here at the galmc2report.ca thought we would take some time on our first day in Ho Chi Minh City to assess this situation and report back to our faithful reader on how successful Heather will be crossing a street. It should be noted that there were several streets with walk/don’t walk signals. We didn’t use those.

Perhaps the ambulance and it’s siren gave Heather second thoughts as she sought to take that first step
Waiting (and waiting, and waiting) for the right moment where resolve will meet opportunity
Still waiting for the right moment. One notices that the people on the other side of the street went for it!
Here we go!

And with that Heather was now on the other side of the street. One problem was quickly identified. I now needed to cross the street.

Getting hit after Heather made it across safely would be killer for my ego (not to mention my body)

So success! Both of us reunited on the same side of the street, intact and feeling proud of ourselves!

  3. Dave and I remember this well. Advice was don’t make sudden movements or change direction, just keep moving forward in a predictable way, hahaha!!! The number of scooters is amazing and how many people could ride on one or the freight that could be balanced. So awesome. We loved loved Vietnam. The contrast of modern and old is stunning. Enjoy!!

    1. We received the same advice. Also following some locals and moving as a group has proved successful.

    1. Hanoi will need a whole other descriptor!! The old quarter was exhausting to walk in but, you do get a sense of accomplishment when you manage to reach the lake safely. 🤣
