To Join a Group Tour or Not…

We are on the last day of our “Best of Morocco” tour with Intrepid and, in short, the travel experience has been very successful!! We have seen a LOT, learned a LOT, had some lovely shared experiences and met some very nice people.

We would not travel with a tour group in every country but, in a country where we do not feel confortable or confident about how to get around or navigate the culture, it’s a good way to go. We also wouldn’t be able to afford to travel on a tour in every country. Although we think we got good value out of this particular tour, on our own, we would not have experienced all of the things we did and maybe we would have chosen less expensive restaurants or skipped a few meals so it would have probably cost us less in the end.

Pros

– you have access to someone who is part of the culture and can answer your questions. – you don’t have to worry about planning. – if you are thoughtful and choose a style that works for you, you will enjoy a good variety of activities and excusions – if there’s a problem, there is someone who will help you solve it. – you have the opportunity to meet people who also enjoy travelling and you can find good tips by listening to their stories. – there will usually be someone to go explore with, if you want company. – you meet people from all over the world (and hopefully you get along so you have an invite to visit). We met people from Australia, Canada, U.S., England, Germany and Switzerland.

Cons

– you may end up with some people who annoy you (fortunately that didn’t happen) – you may feel rushed at times. – you may feel overwhelmed and/or tired. – you may feel some discomfort on longer bus rides if that is part of your tour

We definitely feel that the pros outweighed the potential cons on our trip.

Thanks to all our fellow travellers and to our fearless leader Aziz for the wonderful time!!

We intended to buy out there a permanent home and spend most of the year but afraid events occurred. Take care and be safe. I will look for the photos from Portugal. The only country that Pete and I felt we could spend our retirement. Love from Monica xxx Hope this reaches you
