A special galmc2report shout-out to the lovely woman on our train ride today. We left Santiago and got to Ourense without issue, but we knew we had a quick transfer to get our train to Madrid (about 7 minutes).

We handled the transfer like the travel pros we are (literally the new train was directly across from the train we disembarked from). It was from that point that it got complex. We did not depart as scheduled, and eventually we heard a message on the PA, all in Spanish, that got everyone’s attention.

Thankfully the woman seated in front of us realized that we did not understand the specifics of the message (we did get that something was definitely up).

She explained the situation, that our current train was not working. She also shared that she too was headed for Madrid, so just follow her. So follow her we did, to a new train with no assigned seating (that was fun to watch LOL) that departed for Madrid about an hour after we were initially supposed to leave.

Just another reason for us to pay attention when we are home to folks who may need a helping hand so we can pay her kindness forward!

Postscript: our new train appears to be devoid of power and is gliding into a stop. Our neighbor just advised us to “keep calm and enjoy the ride” as we are now stopped someplace that doesn’t appear to be a train station.

Now we are moving again but slowly and no power. I don’t think this is how train travel is supposed to work, especially as we are now stopped again. I wonder how much alcohol is in the cafe car?

Power is back! And we are moving!
