The flip side of being home is, well, that we aren’t travelling! Here’s some of what we will miss:
– the sense of discovery, both of things planned (aka “we want to see/do something”) and unplanned.
– churches. We’re not religious people, but we did enjoy visiting many a church (or cathedral in some places) to have a look and take a moment to just be quiet and contemplate life.
– hearing the different languages and accents of people passing by when you’re in that three second window where you can eavesdrop “not on purpose”
– trying new things. That snake liquor in Vietnam, Guinness in Ireland (yes, Paul had never had a Guinness before), haggis in Scotland and whatever else there was. We know one can try new things at home, but we (ok, Paul) have tended to stick to the tried and true. Something to work on.
– the regular trips to the market in Paris to get fresh groceries. And the boulangerie of course.
– the ease of being present and focussed on what the day can bring.
– the ease of each day. No wondering about all the issues happening at home, issues at work, or any of the other stuff that clogs our psyches. Just semi-blissful ignorance as the focus would be on what we would want to do with our day.
